STARTING A NEW LOCAL 500 CLUB   BLONDE RED GIF

There are areas of California that do not have a local 500 club and the
nearest one is way too far away.  In that case, you may want to establish
your own local 500 to service the women bowlers in your local area.

Starting a new local 500 is something that can be accomplished
with a little effort and lots of determination.  The California Women’s
500 Club is providing a simple outline of what you would probably
need to accomplish in order to start a new local 500 club.

Disclaimer:  The California Women’s 500 Club does not represent that
this is the only way to create a new local 500 club. The
information provided below is a guideline and does not represent any
sort of legal advice.  The California Women’s 500 Club shall not be
held liable for any action by any entity that is
in violation of any local, county, state or federal law.

1.  First it is necessary for a new 500 Club to have enough women
interested in the idea to form the membership and the
Board of Directors for the new club.  Another first thing that
you will need is a bowling center that the
club can use for their events and tournaments.

 2.  There will be some legal issues that must be addressed.

Since you will be collecting money and paying out money for
things like tournaments, you would be classified as a business
in most areas.  You would need to check with the local
City and County to see if you would be required to
have a business license and or a fictitious name statement.
You would need to contact the IRS and apply for a Federal Tax ID
Number using their SS-4 form.  (This is called an EIN)
You would apply for an EIN as a Non-Profit Organization.

You would be well advised to consult with an attorney to
make sure that you have all of the legal issues covered.

3.  You will need to address some operational issues.

You will need a club bank checking account so that you can deposit
money and write checks.  A good recommendation is that the account
would require at least two signatures on every check.  These signers
are usually the club Treasurer and a couple of other Board members.
You may also want to check into getting a Bonding policy to insure
that the club doesn’t lose all of its money in the event of theft.

You may want to check into getting a liability insurance policy
to safeguard the club in the event that something happens where
the club is found liable for injuries and damages.

You will need to have a Board of Directors to operate the club and
take care of its business.  This Board, at the minimum would
consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer as Officers
and some Directors.  (The amount of Directors is usually determined
by how big your membership is.)  You would need to create a temporary
Board of Directors to set up the club and then have a vote later at your
first membership meeting to elect an official Board of Directors.

The Club will need Bylaws.  Bylaws are the official rules of the
club that makes it clear to all the members what will be done, who
will do it and how it will be accomplished.  You can create
a temporary set of Bylaws for the purpose of establishing the
club. A vote later at your first membership meeting is necessary
so that the rules can be accepted or modified before they
become the official Bylaws for the club.

You must have an initial membership meeting so that the members
of the club can vote on the Board members and Bylaws.  Once the
membership votes to approve the club, the Board and the
Bylaws, the club is now an active local 500 club.

4.  You will need to start operating your club.

You would need to schedule your events in
accordance with what your Bylaws state.

You would need to schedule your Board and Open Membership
meetings in accordance with what your Bylaws state.

You would need to make sure that any other
requirements in your Bylaws are accomplished.

You will need to file the proper tax documents as a non-profit.

You may want to set up a dedicated email address for the
club so that all email sent to the club goes to one place.
This email account can be transferred from one person to
another simply by giving the person the password for the email.

Last but not least, contact the California Women’s 500 Club
using this website to let us know that there is a
new local 500 club located in California.
